I grew up in San Diego and lived in both San Francisco and Seattle before landing in Denver in 1997. After nearly 8 years of service in the US Army concluding after Desert Storm, and many more years in retail and manufacturing middle-management, I decided to find something to do that I truly loved, and real estate has been the perfect fit.
I bought my first vintage home through Nostalgic Homes in 2000 before becoming a Broker in 2001 – an exquisite Craftsman Bungalow in the Harkness Heights neighborhood of Berkeley. From that point on, I was hooked! It made me a true lover of vintage homes, and my life since has never been the same. I then had the opportunity to purchase the Gurtler House, AKA the “Elitch Mansion” at 38th and Raleigh as a semi-rough bank-owned property in 2003. It has been a labor of love for the last 17 years.
I met my wife, Jenny Apel, at the company. Just two months after getting married in 2006, we were offered the opportunity to purchase Nostalgic Homes from its founder. So much for the honeymoon, but everything happens for a reason, and it was too great an opportunity to pass up. We took the reins in August of 2006, rode through the hardest times that real estate probably has ever encountered, and emerged on the other side stronger than ever. In 2018, we joined forces with Compass and became the first whole company in Denver to move over to Compass as a team.
Jenny and I are proud to manage the largest and highest producing team, at the high producing single real estate office in Denver Metro.
Luthiery, or guitar building, is a past profession and current sanity-sidebar of mine, as well as vintage car restoration, and so art and function had long been a driving force in my life. Passion for vintage homes and neighborhoods therefore came naturally. I am an analytical person by nature, and can share with you stats, facts, sales figures, and probably even a little history about the neighborhood you are looking in, but can equally relate to you real life lessons about renovating and maintaining your vintage home, and even share where you can pick up that replacement glass door handle, vintage sink, or art deco lighting piece.
If you need someone with an all-access pass to the best of what vintage real estate in Denver has to offer, need to feel confidence in your Broker’s ability to protect your interests, and want to have a little fun in the process, then I’m that guy. I have been involved in, or supervised, hundreds of transactions in my two decades of real estate. Feel free to draw upon my expertise and contact me today!
