Auraria

The Auraria neighborhood is well known for the Auraria Campus. However, the community itself is very expansive and diverse containing many different businesses, parks, museums, religious and historical buildings. With the southern boundary along West Colfax Ave, running north along North Speer Boulevard and running south along the South Platte River the neighborhood forms a cone-like shape.

History of Auraria

Auraria, Denver’s oldest neighborhood, predates the city’s establishment, and its history neatly encompasses the city’s founding, its development, and its redevelopment as a modern urban center. As a contemporary Denver neighborhood, Auraria is synonymous with the Auraria Higher Education Center (AHEC), which opened in 1976. It is home to the University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the Community College of Denver.

Auraria Community Amenities

Auraria is at the heart of Denver and is very accessible to many travel destinations. You can visit museums like the Children’s Museum of Denver or the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver. The Pepsi Center is inside Auraria, and the Sports Authority Field at Mile High is just across the river. You can also visit the Elitch Gardens and Downtown Aquarium both of which are within the neighborhood. There are also several dining and shopping areas nearby for your day to day needs. There are regular events at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House and The Colorado Convention Center that you can check out as well. The mile-high city has especially great weather with 300 days of the year being sunny. As a result, this makes the city perfect for outdoor activities you can enjoy with friends and family.
