Barnum is a neighborhood in West Denver. 6th Avenue bounds the area on the north, Alameda Ave on the south, Federal Boulevard on the east, and Perry Street on the west. Barnum’s history is one of a quiet development over more than a century, although not for lack of a strong sense of community. Like so many other American suburbs, Barnum began with a developer’s dream. In 1865, Daniel Witter bought 160 acres southwest of Denver.
Barnum has a healthy community with many working-class families living in the neighborhood. The neighborhood is primarily known for its Mexican Restaurants. Most notable among these are Puerto Vallarta Mexican Restaurant, El Rancherito, and Columbine Steak House & Lounge. Denver has excellent weather with 300 days of the year being sunny. You can enjoy outdoor activities like jogging or biking with your family on Barnum Park. Inside the park, you can take advantage of facilities like the Barnum Recreation Center and the Barnum Water Park. For your shopping needs, you can support the local grocery Mi Pueblo Market.
First opened in August 2011, the Barnum Mountain Bike Park is similar to the track in Winter Park. The park is perfect for BMX, mountain biking, and downhill bikes. The park is ideal for both beginners and experts of the sport.
If you’re moving into Denver with your family, you have several good schools options. 44.3% of Denver adults have a Bachelor’s Degree or higher, and 91.3% finished High School. Colorado is flexible when transferring your kids from one school to other thanks to the SchoolChoice program. A few schools close to the neighborhood are Barnum Elementary School, West High School, and Grant Beacon Middle School.
